1968:Pope Paul VI arrives in Bogotá, Colombia, marking the first visit of any Roman Catholic pontiff to Latin America.

1966: The United Farm Workers Organizing Committee, predecessor of the United Farm Workers of America, is formed under the leadership of Cesar Chavez, Dolores Huerta, and Larry Itliong, providing farm workers with an AFL-CIO-affiliated union.
