SWANSEA (ILLINOIS) RECEIVES GRANT FOR CHILD CARE

The Rotary Club of Swansea has received a $6,000 grant from the Rotary Foundation that will allow them to help the St. Clair County Health Department sponsor a free infant and child immunization program.
Two special clinics will be a result of the grant. One will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Sept. 8, at High Mount School, 1721 Boul Ave., in Swansea, and the second will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Sept. 22, at Wolf Branch Elementary School, 125 Huntwood Road, Swansea.
Wayne Schlosser, Rotary project chairman for the events, said this is the sixth time the club has helped with children's health events. It also has sponsored a kids' health fair, a healthy kids' day at YMCA camp and immunization clinics in 2005.
The program provides more help than just the two clinics, Schlosser said.
"The publicity from such a campaign helps attract people to the health department's programs," he said. "Plus, it warms your heart to know you're helping all these youngsters."
All children ages 2 months to 18 years will qualify for the immunizations if they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. The child must bring along a copy of the child's current immunization record.
To schedule an appointment for a child, call the health department at 233-6170, ext. 4427. The department also is offering alternative appointments to the two days during the month of September.
