Dan Resin, a wonderful character actor known for his many roles on Broadway and in film, passed away last week, at the age of 79. During his career, he appeared in the original cast of My Fair Lady and Once Upon a Mattress, and had a memorable role in the 1980 comedy, Caddyshack, portraying “Dr. Beeper” alongside fellow golfers Chevy Chase, Ted Knight and Rodney Dangerfield in the film.
But the role that Dan Resin will perhaps be best remembered for was as a quirky and unforgettable product pitchman. Back in the 70s, millions of us watched the surprised looks on the faces of unsuspecting television housewives, as they lifted the lid on their toilet’s water tank. Underneath, a tiny well-dressed man somehow inhabited these damp dwellings, equipped with a trusty nautical craft that he precariously balanced himself on as he extolled the virtues of Ty-D-Bol cleaning products.
