1940:What’s up, Doc? Wascally wabbit Bugs Bunny makes his debut in the Warner Bros. cartoon A Wild Hare, frustrating Elmer Fudd for the first time on the silver screen.

1794:
Maximilien Robespierre is overthrown and arrested in Paris, after leading the Committee of Public Safety’s “reign of terror” in executing (mostly by guillotine) over 17,000 alleged enemies of the French Revolution. He is guillotined along with 21 others the following day.

2004: Illinois Sen. Barack Obama gives the keynote address at the Democratic National Convention, becoming known to many Americans for the first time and paving the way for his 2008 presidential run.
