1959:Vice President Richard Nixon argues with Soviet Leader Nikita Khrushchev over the merits of capitalism versus communism in a model kitchen at the American National Exhibition in Moscow. The famous Cold War incident becomes known as the “kitchen debate.”
1974: The U.S. Supreme Court unanimously rules that President Richard Nixon must turn over the subpoenaed Watergate tapes recorded in the Oval Office, rejecting Nixon’s claims of executive privilege.
2005: Lance Armstrong wins his record-setting seventh consecutive Tour de France and announces his retirement from competitive cycling. He will return to racing in the 2009 Tour de France, ultimately finishing third.
