JULY 19
1848:Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott lead the first women’s rights convention as it opens in Seneca Falls, N.Y. More than 300 people attend in support of granting women political, moral and social equality, summarized in the “Declaration of Sentiments.”

1980: The 22nd Summer Olympic Games begin in Moscow. The United States and 64 other nations boycott the event, protesting the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.
