1975:Arthur Ashe handily defeats heavily favored opponent Jimmy Connors in the men’s Wimbledon final, becoming the first black man to win tennis’s highest honor.

1946: The bikini, designed by Louis Reard and named for the atomic test site Bikini Atoll, makes its debut at a fashion show in Paris.

1996: Dolly the sheep is born at the Roslin Institute in Scotland. She is the first mammal to be successfully cloned from an adult cell.
