1944:Allied troops land on the beaches of Normandy, France, on D-Day, beginning the liberation of Nazi-occupied Western Europe.

1966: James Meredith, the first African American to attend the University of Mississippi, is shot and wounded during a march to encourage black voter registration in the South.

2007: After a 35-year run, Bob Barker tapes his last episode as host of the CBS game show The Price Is Right.
