1937:Months after abdicating the British throne, the Duke of Windsor (previously King Edward VIII) marries American divorcée Wallis Warfield Simpson in France.

1965: Astronaut Ed White becomes the first American to “walk” in space, spending 20 minutes tethered outside the Gemini 4 capsule.

1989: Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, spiritual and political ruler of Iran and leader of the 1979 Iranian revolution, dies in Tehran at age 86.
