1935: Babe Ruth retires, ending a major league career of 22 seasons, 10 World Series and 714 home runs.

1997: Timothy McVeigh is convicted of murder and conspiracy in connection with the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, which killed 168 people.
