TODAY IN HISTORY

JUNE 1
1979:A black-led government assumes power in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), after 90 years of white minority rule.

1792: Kentucky becomes the 15th state to join the Union.  Exactly four years later, Tennessee is admitted as the 16th state.

1980: CNN debuts, marking the birth of the 24-hour television news network. The channel is currently broadcast into more than 89 million American homes.
