1982:Speaking before the British Parliament at the Palace of Westminster, President Ronald Reagan predicts that Marxism-Leninism will end up “on the ash heap of history.”

1966: The rival National Football League and American Football League announce that they will merge into the NFL, with the champions of the two conferences competing annually in a game later known as the Super Bowl.

1968: James Earl Ray is arrested at London’s Heathrow Airport for the April 4 assassination of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.
