ROTARIAN SPONSORED HEALTH CLINIC

In September 2009, the Rotary Club of Concord, California, USA, opened a free health clinic through a Rotarian-sponsored nonprofit organization serving communities in northern California. The nonprofit provides clinics that offer free, quality health care for uninsured area residents. Rotarians spent two years organizing an expansion into Concord. The new clinic is critical to community members who are unable to pay for medical care without insurance coverage.

The Concord clinic is open one night per week and serves 20-25 patients nightly. It treated 450 patients in its first six months of operation. Most of the doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and social workers at the clinic are volunteers from the community, but medical professionals in the club also help out. Other club members assist on a rotating schedule as registrars and translators, working on the administration of the clinic.
