1975:As thousands wait to flee, 80 journalists fly out of Saigon, becoming the first Westerners allowed to leave since the city fell to communist forces a month before.

1844: Annie Ellsworth’s suggestion is used by Samuel Morse for the first telegraphic message—“What hath God wrought!”

1987: At 47, Al Unser Sr. becomes the oldest driver to win the Indy 500, his fourth victory. His son finishes three cars behind him.
