THE PASSING OF A TRUE ROTARIAN

(The following is from the Wood River Rotary club newsletter. A well said testimonial to my friend Max. I was lucky and very proud to have know him.)

Wood River Rotary was indeed fortunate to count Max Emery among its members for the past 27 years.  Max died peacefully May 10 ending a months-long battle with cancer.  Enjoy Rotary was the 1989-1990 RI slogan and no one embodied the slogan more than Max.  As Jim Herndon so eloquently said during the funeral Max symbolized the Rotary motto Service Above Self.  We could always count on Max to lead Club projects such as Salvation Army bell ringing, Rotary Fruit Sale and Rotary Scholarship program.  He participated in every project from litter pickup to golf tournaments and from Rotary Shelter painting and repair to the Halloween Parade. In his career he served as postmaster and as a community leader he was a member of the East Alton-Wood River Community High School Board of Education and Wood River Township Hospital Board of Directors. We send our condolences to Connie and the family.
