They appeared to us as trusted friends, greeting us each morning as we watched their brief comical misadventures with bleary eyes. We may not have understood their true purpose at the time; we just thought they were funny. But mom sure did – for she knew that these lovable critters were soon going to cause her plenty of grief in the cereal aisle of the supermarket. We were sure to point to the boxes, with big pictures of our aforementioned friends on the front, and plead for mom to let us bring them home. The breakfast cereal mascots did their job very, very well.
While there are so many that we could feature, today we will take a look at a handful from the 70s era. We’ll start with that hipster, Sugar Bear, spokesbear from Super Sugar Crisp. Next up is Sonny, the manic mascot for Cocoa Puffs. Then, after a brief Raisin Bran interlude, we are treated to the exclamatory Tony the Tiger, voiced by beloved baritone, Thurl Ravenscroft. And just to wrap things up, we’ll take a trip to a familiar clubhouse, home of Honeycombs (granted, there was no mascot present in this clip, but it’s still some memorable viewing). So, without further ado, a compilation of cereal commercials for your enjoyment:
