1954:Roger Bannister becomes the first person to run a mile in less than four minutes.

1915: Boston Red Sox Babe Ruth hits the first of his career 714 home runs in a game against his future team, the Yankees.

1937: Radio reporter Herb Morrison cries “Oh, the humanity!” as the hydrogen-filled German zeppelin Hindenburg catches fire and crashes, killing 36 people.
