TODAY IN HISTORY

SEPTEMBER 13
1993:Yasser Arafat, leader of the Palestine Liberation Organization, and Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin seal the Oslo Accords by shaking hands on the South Lawn of the White House. The accords grant limited autonomy to the Palestinian National Authority and call for the withdrawal of Israeli troops from parts of the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

1960: The Federal Communications Commission bans the controversial practice of "payola," which involves record labels paying DJs to play certain songs on the radio. Alan Freed, often called the "Father of Rock 'n' Roll," will be the only DJ indicted for "commercial bribery," charges that will destroy his career in the music industry. Freed will plead guilty and pay a fine.

2001: Secretary of State Colin Powell names Osama bin Laden as the primary suspect in masterminding the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
