1985:Philadelphia police bomb the radical group MOVE’s headquarters. Eleven people die from the explosion, which destroys 61 homes.


1940: Winston Churchill gives his first speech as British prime minister, saying: “I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat.”

1981: Pope John Paul II is severely wounded by gunshots while riding in the Popemobile in Rome.
