TODAY IN HISTORY

1932: Army Chief of Staff Gen. Douglas MacArthur sends infantry, cavalry and tanks to clear WWI “Bonus Army” protesters out of Washington, D.C. Maj. George Patton leads the cavalry; Maj. Dwight D. Eisenhower acts as a liaison with the police.

1914: Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia. It’s the start of World War I.

1965: Lyndon B. Johnson announces American troops in Vietnam will increase from 75,000 to 125,000.
