TODAY IN HISTORY

1881: Henry McCarty, the infamous Billy the Kid, is shot to death by Sheriff Pat Garrett in New Mexico.

1789: Parisians storm the Bastille, the prison symbolic of Louis XVI’s power, at the start of the French Revolution. The anniversary is now a national French holiday.

1966: Corazon Amurao emerges after hiding from Richard Speck, who has killed eight student nurses in a Chicago townhouse during the night.
