TODAY IN HISTORY

1969: One giant leap. Neil Armstrong and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin become the first humans on the moon. The Apollo 11 astronauts erect an American flag and leave a plaque that says: “We came in peace for all mankind.”

1976: Viking 1 becomes the first spacecraft to successfully land on Mars.

1999: Gus Grissom’s Liberty Bell 7 space capsule is recovered after 38 years under 15,000 feet of water.
