 1932:American physicist Carl D. Anderson discovers the existence of the positron, a subatomic particle with the same mass yet opposite charge of the electron. Along with Victor Hess, Anderson would be awarded the 1936 Nobel Prize in Physics for his discovery.


1909: The U.S. Army purchases a military flyer — the common term before airplane — built by Wilbur and Orville Wright for $30,000, effectively forming the Army Air Corps.


1962: The folk musician born as Robert Zimmerman legally changes his name to Robert Dylan in Greenwich Village, New York City.


1873:San Francisco has its first ever cable car operated system



1776:The United States Declaration of Independence was signed
