1964: Jack Ruby is convicted and sentenced to death for killing accused JFK assassin Lee Harvey Oswald. The death sentence will later be overturned.

1794:
A year after sending his idea to Thomas Jefferson, Eli Whitney receives a patent for the cotton gin.

1967:
President John F. Kennedy’s body is moved to its permanent resting place in Arlington National Cemetery.
