1967:Edward Brooke of Massachusetts becomes the first African American to be elected to the Senate by popular vote, and the first black senator in 85 years.

1964: Vee-Jay Records beats Capitol to release the Fab Four’s first album in America, Introducing the Beatles.

1946: Four-fifths of the world’s population is represented at the first meeting of the United Nations General Assembly in London.
