1998: President Bill Clinton admits to having an affair with intern Monica Lewinsky in a televised address, saying: “I misled people, including my wife. I deeply regret that.”
1896: George Carmack and Skookum Jim find gold along the Klondike River in present-day Alaska, resulting in the Klondike gold rush.
