1936:Jesse Owens humiliates Nazi Germany as he wins his fourth gold medal at the Berlin Olympics in the 400-meter relay race.

1945: An estimated 40,000 people die instantly from an atomic bomb dropped over Nagasaki, Japan, by the United States.

1969: Members of the Manson “family” brutally murder pregnant actress Sharon Tate and four others at her Los Angeles home.
