1954: Elvis Presley gets his big break at an audition with Sun Records in Memphis. Two days later, “That’s All Right Mama” debuts on a Memphis radio station.

1975: Arthur Ashe upsets defending champion Jimmy Connors, becoming the first African American to win the Wimbledon men’s singles title.
