THE TIPSY POINT
Can't believe that you drank so much so fast? Maybe it was the shape of the glass.
Drinking from a curved glass can speed up how much drinkers imbibe. In a study, 159 participants attended two "drinking sessions," during which they consumed either beer or a soft drink from either a curved or a straight-sided glass. They then completed a task identifying the perceived midpoint of the two glasses.
Participants significantly misjudged the halfway point of a curved glass versus that of a straight glass, and they were also 60% slower to consume a beverage from a straight glass, no matter what they drank.
The take-away: Those who want to control their drinking might ask the bartender for a straight glass.
