1995:A Los Angeles jury acquits former football star O.J. Simpson of the June 1994 murders of his estranged wife, Nicole Brown, and her friend, Ronald Goldman, despite substantial evidence against him.

1949: WERD opens in Atlanta, featuring "Jockey Jack" Gibson. It is the first African American-owned radio station in the United States, operated by businessman Jesse B. Blayton Sr.

1964: So they're not made out of buffalo? Teressa Bellissimo, co-owner of the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, N.Y., creates the first "buffalo wings" — deep-fried chicken wings dipped in butter and cayenne pepper hot sauce, as a late-night snack for her hungry college-aged son and his friends.
