THE TECH GENDER GAP

A Microsoft survey of 500 undergraduate science, math and engineering majors found contrasting motivations in males and females.
For men, the top reason for choosing a science-tech major was a "good salary out of school"; for women, it was intellectual stimulation. While 51% of males chose their subject partly because of experience with related games, toys, books or clubs, only 35% of women did so. Also, 68% of women but only 51% of men credited a particular high-school class or teacher with turning them on to the subject.
