FISHER PRICE RECALL

WASHINGTON—Federal product safety regulators have recalled about 10 million Fisher Price products, including about seven million Trikes tricycles that could cause genital bleeding if a child strikes, sits or falls on a protruding plastic ignition key. (More after the break)

Other products recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada include baby playgrounds, high chairs, and toy cars sold with a rampway set. Regulators in the U.S. and Canada say the products could cause injuries ranging from cuts to choking hazards from small parts.
Fisher-Price is a unit of Mattel Inc. In a statement on Mattel's website announcing the recall, the company said it wants to reassure parents that "our products are overwhelmingly safe." The company said it tests its products at many stages during development and production and monitors parents' safety-related reports over time. "If we see an issue with a product at any point, even after many have been sold and used safely, we take appropriate action," the company said. "Our actions reflect our continuing commitment to the safety of our products."
The recalled toddler bicycles include seven million in the U.S. and 150,000 in Canada. Regulators are aware of 10 reports of injuries, including six that required medical attention for two-to-three-year-old girls. The products were made in Mexico and sold at mass merchandise stores from January of 1997 through September of this year.
Fisher-Price will recall other products sold between 2001 and 2008. Those include the Baby Playzone Crawl & Cruise Playground, the Baby Playzone Crawl & Slide Arcade, the Baby Gymnastics Play Wall, the Ocean Wonders Kick & Crawl Aquarium, the 1-2-3 Tetherball, and a Bat & Score Goal product. The risk is that the valve of the inflatable ball on these toys can come off and cause children to choke. There have been 46 reports of this in the U.S. and eight in Canada, but no reported injuries. All of the products were made in either Mexico or China. Regulators said parents should remove the inflatable ball and contact the company. About 2.8 million were sold in the U.S. and 125,000 in Canada.
Regulators said the company will recall the Healthy Care Easy Clean HighChair and Close to Me High Chair. About 950,000 were sold in the U.S. and 125,000 in Canada. Regulators say children can fall on or against the pegs on the rear legs of the chair, causing cuts or other injuries. There have been 14 reports of incidents, including seven children who had to get stitches and one tooth injury. The products were sold from September 2001 to September of this year, and were made in either China or Mexico.
Regulators also recalled the Little People Wheelies Stand 'n Play Rampway because the wheels on the purple and green cars can come off, posing a choking hazard. There have been two reports of wheels coming off but no injuries. These products, made in Mexico, were also sold from April through September of this year.
