1952: Less than two weeks before the election, Republican presidential candidate Dwight Eisenhower vows, “I shall go to Korea,” and pledges to end the war.

1987: The Teamsters union rejoins the AFL-CIO 30 years after being expelled for corruption.

2001: A $100 billion economic stimulus plan passes in the U.S. House to help people who lost their jobs after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
