OCTOBER 15
1860: Grace Bedell, an 11-year-old from New York, writes to presidential candidate Abraham Lincoln advising him to grow a beard to gain votes. Less than a month later, Lincoln stops shaving.
1951: America meets Lucy Ricardo and the whole gang as I Love Lucy debuts on CBS. 1969: More than a million people across the U.S. take part in a massive protest against the war in Vietnam.
