1956: Against the Brooklyn Dodgers, New York Yankee Don Larsen pitches the only perfect game in a World Series.

1871: The Great Chicago Fire kills hundreds, causes millions of dollars in damage. Inquiry board never points the finger at Catherine O’Leary’s cow.

1918: Alvin York kills more than 20 German soldiers and captures 132 others in France’s Argonne Forest. He’s later awarded the Medal of Honor.
