TODAY IN HISTORY

1775:The U.S. Army is born when the Continental Congress allows the enlistment of riflemen.

1777: The Continental Congress resolves that the Stars and Stripes will be America’s flag. In 1949, the U.S. Congress designates June 14 as National Flag Day.

1954: President Dwight D. Eisenhower signs a bill adding the words “under God” to the Pledge of Allegiance.
