A new report from Nielsen says that, on average, American audiences watch just 9 percent—or roughly 17—of the 189 TV channels available to them. What’s more, the U.S. pay-TV sector recorded its first-ever overall decline in subscriptions in 2013, with a net loss of 251,000 among cable, satellite, and other pay-TV customers.
