 1962:Marilyn Monroe is found dead in the bedroom of her Los Angeles home, presumably from an overdose of sleeping pills. The film star was 36 years old.


1926: Harry Houdini attempts one of his final and most notable feats — spending 91 minutes in an airtight metal box submerged in a swimming pool at the Hotel Shelton in New York City. The legendary magician and escape artist would die only two months later of appendicitis, at age 52.


1975: Stevie Wonder signs a $37 million recording contract for seven years and seven LPs with Motown Records; it is the largest music contract for a solo artist in history.


1995:Today is Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day for Croatians



1985:Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is announced and established.




1914:First electric traffic light installed
