WHY DO YOU GET THE ROTARIAN MAGAZINE?

Robert Aitken, managing editor of Rotary Down Under, past district governor, and former chair of the RI Communications Committee and Public Image Resource Group, responds:
Made up of 32 magazines in 25 languages, the Rotary World Magazine
Press is the only means of direct communication between the RI Board of Directors and each individual Rotarian. These official magazines, which are licensed by Rotary International, meet a vital communications and public relations need within Rotary clubs and districts, as well as within the communities each publication serves.
These magazines vary in size, from one-person operations with about 2,000 readers to major publishing efforts with circulations of 100,000 or more. Each one prints unique articles that develop and enhance the traditions and culture of Rotary in that particular area, providing an essential resource and education tool.
While each magazine has its own identity, all regional publications are required to
carry some editorial content from Rotary’s flagship magazine, The Rotarian, to ensure consistency in Rotary’s message. As a result, club and district leaders make a significant contribution to Rotary when they endorse subscriptions among their members and distribute copies of their regional magazine to local libraries, schools, and businesses.
To be accredited by Rotary International, each magazine must be administered by a board of elected Rotary leaders and publish at least six issues per year. Regional magazines’ accreditation is considered for renewal every four years.
