1933:Frances Perkins becomes the first female Cabinet member as FDR’s secretary of Labor. She will be the principal architect of the Social Security Act.

1681: William Penn is issued a royal charter from Charles II for land that is now Pennsylvania.

1952: Hollywood’s Ronald Reagan and Nancy Davis get married. Academy Award winner Bill Holden serves as best man.
