1952:Elizabeth becomes the queen of England after her father, King George VI, dies in his sleep.

1971: Alan Shepard hits golf balls while on the moon. The club he used is later displayed at the U.S. Golf Association Hall of Fame.

1998:
On what would have been the late president Ronald Reagan’s 87th birthday, Washington National Airport is renamed in his honor.
