IN CASE YOUR FORGOT

DTV Transition This Friday

This Friday, June 12, television stations across the nation will begin to broadcast only digital signals. If you still rely on an outdoor antenna or rabbit ears to receive television broadcasts, you will need a digital converter box to continue using your TV set.

Originally set for February 17, the date was moved back due to concerns that too many households were unprepared for the switch, which means older analog televisions will no longer work unless connected to cable television, satellite television, or a converter box. If you have already purchased a converter box, I strongly encourage you to plug it in and ensure it works before Friday.

Those needing converter boxes can still take part in the government program providing $40 coupons from the U.S. Department of Commerce toward their purchase. To apply, call 1-888-DTV-2009 or go online to dtv2009.gov.

Procrastinators will be disappointed. “There will not be another delay,” according to a statement from the Commerce Department.
