Central States Rotary Youth Exchange sends its gratitude to District 6460. As many of you might already know in late January a gunman in the Portland, Oregon area, Rotary District 5100, randomly shot into a crowd of Rotary Exchange Students, killing two students and wounding five others. An appeal was made for money to help off set travel expenses for the families of the killed and wounded to travel to the United States, help pay medical expenses, and fund scholarships in the name of those killed. Springfield, Illinois, Rotarian, Dan Milligan, Treasurer of The Central States Rotary Youth Exchange Committee, of which District 6460 is a part, sent a special note to the Leadership of 6460 asking for donations. Because the district cannot use district funds for this purpose, the District 6460 Advisory and Finance Committee decided that the committee would donate personal funds to the Portland massacre and appeal to individual clubs to likewise support the funds that had been set up to help the victims.
In a personal conversation with CSRYEC Treasurer Dan Milligan last Monday night in Springfield, he informed me how proud he was of District 6460. He told me that of the $5000.00 he received from the 13 districts that belong to CSRYE, District 6460 gave half of all the money donated! Congratulations fellow members of District 6460; once again you have stepped up and given support to a cause over and beyond other districts in our area. Thank You Very Much! I, too, am very proud of all of you.
District Governor Dick
