THE DYING ART OF THE JOB INTERVIEW

College grads need lessons in office etiquette, said Paul Davidson in USA Today. Human resources professionals say many Millennials are performing “poorly—sometimes even bizarrely—in job interviews.” Some of them take calls, text, dress inappropriately, use slang, “and exhibit other oddball behavior” in the hot seat. One college senior seeking a buyer’s position at American Eagle brought her cat along, set its crate on the interviewer’s desk, and played with it. “It hit me, like—why would you think that’s okay?” said Mark Dillon, the chain’s former recruiting director. Recruiters say roughly one in five recent grads displays unprofessional behavior. And according to a survey by the Center for Professional Excellence at York College of Pennsylvania, about half of HR executives say that most who land positions are still “not professional their first year on the job.”
