FEBRUARY 4
1952:In the midst of his career as a second baseman for the Brooklyn Dodgers, Jackie Robinson becomes the first African American executive of a major radio and television network, as director of community activities for New York City's WNBC and WNBT.

1932:
New York Gov. Franklin D. Roosevelt opens the first Winter Olympic Games to be held in the United States, in Lake Placid, N.Y.

2004:
It may be hard to imagine a world without Facebook, but the social networking site was launched on this date — only eight years ago — by Harvard University sophomore Mark Zuckerberg. Originally restricted to Harvard students, Facebook is now worth over $50 billion, with more than 800 million registered members around the world.
