DECEMBER 18
1915:The recently widowed President Woodrow Wilson marries socialite Edith Bolling Galt at her Washington home.

1936: Manhattan socialite Ruth Harkness returns from a trek in Tibet, bringing with her the first giant panda to arrive on U.S. soil. Harkness causes "panda-monium" as she lands in San Francisco with the cub Su-Lin, which is eventually acquired by the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago.

1966: Horror film star Boris Karloff narrates the television version of Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas, which airs for the first time on this day on CBS. The Grinch quickly becomes a hallmark of the holiday season.
