1976:Fourteen-year old Romanian gymnast Nadia Comaneci scores the first perfect 10 in Olympic gymnastics history, winning gold on the uneven bars. Comaneci will be ultimately awarded three gold medals, a silver and a bronze at the Summer Olympic Games in Montreal.

1936: Carl Mayer, nephew of hot dog king Oscar Mayer, oversees production of the company's first Wienermobile at the General Body Company in Chicago. Since then, the 13-foot-long hot dog-shaped vehicle has promoted bologna and other lunch meats around the nation and overseas.

1948: Argentine race car legend Juan Manuel Fangio makes his Formula One debut at the Grand Prix de l'Automobile Club de France in Reims, France. Although Fangio was unable to finish his first race because of car trouble, he will win five Formula One titles in his career, and "the Maestro" is often considered one of the best drivers of all time.
