JULY 10,
1965:The Rolling Stones score their first No. 1 hit in the United States, when "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" reaches the top of the Billboard Top 40.

1938: Businessman and inventor Howard Hughes begins his flight around the world, heading east from New York in a Lockheed Super Electra with four crew members. Ninety-one hours later, he lands back in New York, breaking the previous around-the-world record by more than four days.

1999: The U.S. women's soccer team defeats China in a 5-4 penalty kick shootout to win the Third Women's World Cup. The crowd of 90,185 fans at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., is the largest to ever attend a women's sporting event.
