2004:Pat Tillman, a former professional football player with the Arizona Cardinals, is killed by “friendly fire” while serving with the Army’s 75th Ranger Regiment in Sperah, Afghanistan. He was 27.

1509: Seventeen-year-old Prince Henry is proclaimed king of England after the death of his father, becoming King Henry VIII.

2000: Federal agents seize 6-year-old Cuban refugee Elián González from the home of his relatives in Miami to reunite him with his Cuban father, Juan Miguel González, at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland, drawing the international custody dispute to a close.
