NOVEMBER 21
1980:After eight months of suspense, 83 million Americans tune into CBS to finally learn who shot J.R. on the prime-time drama Dallas; it turns out to be Kristin Shepard, the sister-in-law and mistress of scheming oil baron J.R. Ewing.

1877:
Prolific inventor Thomas Edison unveils his newest device, the phonograph, which he calls his "talking machine" for its ability to record and play back sound.

1985:
U.S. naval intelligence analyst Jonathan Pollard is arrested for passing classified security information to Israel. He is sentenced to life in prison and continues to serve his sentence, despite receiving Israeli citizenship in 1995.
